THE ORCHARD

Currently at the Orchard

We’re making applesauce! Coming from the Midwest, I had never experienced apple picking . I loved taking our children to local orchards so they could experience handpicking  fresh apples. When we bought the farm in 1997, I asked Tyler if we could have our special PYO apple orchard.  He said of course, and we planted our first apple trees in 2003. Three years later, we had a bountiful apple crop, but waited until 2007 to open up as a pick your own orchard. As the orchard matured and we had many bountiful crops with so many apples left on the trees year after year, Tyler and I decided we wanted to create a unique line of farm fresh apple sauces.

Last year, our very talented French Foodie, Olivia Anderson came up with three sweet apple sauces: Natural, Spiced, and Lemongrass. All three have passed the University of Maine’s Test standards and we are very excited to go into full production this fall.

We have all three available at the farm stand for you to taste test and purchase.

Pick Your Own

Young Family Farm is proud of our 5 acre apple orchard, which boasts 10 different varieties of apples that are available for Pick-Your-Own harvesting from September to the end of October each year. We feature Honeycrisp, Macintosh, Gala, Smoothie, Mutsu and Jonagold varieties, just to name a few.

Our annual Apple Festival, which is planned for the second weekend in October, is when visitors can pick apples at the height of the season and also enjoy another Pick-Your-Own opportunity at the same time. Pumpkin picking is another very popular activity this time of year.

This season at Young Family Farm we will be offering pick your own farm fresh fruits, veggies and flowers. We have already planted for you sugarsnap peas, red and golden beets, lettuce, spinach and kale. When our crops are ready to be picked, come and enjoy the experience of farming without all the work!

To find out more about our Apple Festival, visit our events page for dates, times and ticket information.

Young Family Farm will be opening up a brand new 2 acre section of the farm this year that will be used to feature a variety of produce that we typically sell to grocery store locations throughout New England.
