On November 17th and 18th, we are hosting A Sweet Taste of Harvest at the Farm Stand. Come enjoy sweet apple pie and spiced squash cake baked with Young Family Farm produce. Taste the treats, order your sweets and pick up the day before Thanksgiving (Wed. the 21st) to be able to put on your Turkey Day Table.

For every sweet treat purchased for Thanksgiving, Young Family Farm will donate apples to help families suffering from Hurricane Sandy.

Together we will be able to make a difference!

We hope that your family and friends have weathered the storm and have not suffered too much devastation.  As part of our hurricane preparation we picked all of our fruits and veggies before the storm hit, put them in cold storage so they are ready to be served on your Thanksgiving table.

Along side with preparing to serve our customers, we feel it is of the upmost importance that food be donated to the people in areas affected by the storm. We will be donating a significant amount of our produce and resources as soon as possible.

It is important that we do everything we can to help where it is needed.

Sunday afternoon grill sessions have been the hit all summer. Whether you’re coming to or from the beach or stopping buy for a super fresh lunch, we have been grilling up fresh meats, fruits and veg that will tickle anyone’s taste buds! Whatever is the freshest is on the grill, it’s always a surprise!

Today was our first Kid’s Day at YFF!  The project was to create a hand painted Mothers Day gift using terra cotta pots and an annual of choice.

Our supplies:

• Terra Cotta Pots
• Acrylic Paints
• Organic Potting Soil Mix
• 4 1/2″ annual
• Paint and sponge brushes

One of our participants was 10 year old Will. He created an awesome terra cotta pot, mixing sponge with brush painting to make a sunny landscape.  As the paint was drying, Farmer Tyler took Will on a mini tour of the beautiful blooming apple orchard that was buzzing with busy pollinating bees.  They also checked the potato field for plants that are soon to break through the soil and spoke about the different types of potatoes that are growing. 

Once the paint dried, Will put a layer of soil at the bottom of his painted pot, planted his orange Superbell,then topped it off will a little extra soil, and finished the day with a beautiful Mothers Day gift!

We had a great afternoon and plan to have many more Kid’s Days this season!

Happy Spring 2012!

We are so excited to open our doors and share all the new and exciting things we have going on this season. We’ve been quite busy since the baby plants and seeds hit two months ago!  Between creating a new seeding system, transplanting all the babies, planting in the field and the construction of a new temperate controlled storage barn, we have officially begun the 2012 Season!

We will be opening our doors May 1st with an abundant selection of annuals and perennials.  Our featured events in May and June are our May-N-Take Workshops! From inspiring growers to plant in unique, unconventional ‘pots’ to learning about sensational succulents, our Make-N-Take Workshops are set up to teach about the plant topic AND make the creation to take home!
